Dr Dale is an internationally recognised leader in NLG R&D. Since receiving his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 1989, he has published over 160 papers and seven books on a wide range of topics in natural language processing. His best known publication is Building Natural Language Generation Systems, which is widely used as a textbook for NLG. From 2003 to 2012 he served as editor-in-chief of Computational Linguistics, the pre-eminent international journal on natural language processing. In 2012, Dr Dale stepped down as Professor in Computational Linguistics at Sydney’s Macquarie University to join Arria as Chief Technology Officer.
Our multilingual efforts are focussed on helping people talk to people, and on helping people talk to computational systems, irrespective of the natural languages those people speak. But those systems need to be able to talk back in the same languages – and that needs natural language generation (NLG) technology. In this presentation I aim to convince you that NLG will revolutionise the way we communicate with systems and machines.
